Yawning Portal make music one can levitate to – the UK duo’s production meanders through soft-leaning genres, smoothing the edges of time passing by. American Midwest is an unexpected inspiration for a strongly ambient record that befriends the euphoria of trance music and the dream pop & trip-hop elements, but it is the meditative, introspection-infused feeling of driving a car in an almost trance-like state, with no end in sight, that’s strongly synonymous with Anywhere. Released on YEAR0001, highly textural, full of sparkling drones, rich composition, and lightly bouncy tracks, Yawning Portal’s album feels like dreaming between the dancefloor and the internet.
